Your data is stored on your device by default

What we store, and where

• Your businesses, clients, invoices, tax rates, saved items and logos.
• Frozen sent-invoice proofs: marking an invoice sent freezes a PDF of its current state, plus a copy of the invoice and business details at that moment — a clear record of what you marked sent and when (not necessarily the exact bytes that left your device, if you edited the invoice after actually sending it through a separate channel).
• Invoice activity: a short timeline per invoice (for example "PDF downloaded", "marked as sent").
• Which business is currently active in the editor.
• Backup status: when your last backup happened, and the latest backup error, if any.
• Browser-storage persistence status — whether your browser granted this site protected storage that survives routine cleanup.
• Google Drive connection status: whether it's connected, when it last backed up, the latest error if any, how many backups it's made, and the most recent backup's filename.
• Cached copy of the public tax-rate reference data and when it was last checked.
• A device identifier recording which browser last changed an invoice, and identifying the source device in backups.

All of it is stored in your browser's local storage (specifically IndexedDB), on the device you're using. We do not receive, transmit or hold any of it on a server of ours — there isn't one to send it to. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it, so keep a backup. (A backupEvents table also exists in the database structure but is empty — nothing is ever written to it.)

Two small preferences we also store

• Dismissed suggestions: which Action Center rows you've dismissed, so we don't repeat them. Tied to what the suggestion was about, not to you.
• Country page: which country you've picked from the menu, so navigation stays consistent on your next visit. Only written when you pick — simply viewing a country page doesn't change what's remembered.

Neither identifies or tracks you, and both exist purely to do something you asked the interface to do.

How data leaves your device

Every one of these is something you choose to do — none of them happen automatically:

• Download a PDF — built entirely in your browser from your data.
• Share — hands a file to your device's own share sheet, if your browser supports it.
• Email draft — opens a pre-filled email in your own email app or webmail; you review it and press send.
• WhatsApp draft — opens a pre-filled message the same way.
• Export a backup — downloads a JSON file you control. It only leaves your device if you save or share it further.
• Optional cloud backup — Google Drive is available today; connecting is optional and happens only when you choose it. Described below.

Google Drive backup

The "Back up to your own Google Drive" option is strictly opt-in. The app running in your browser receives limited access (Google's drive.file scope) only to backup files it creates or that you open with it; no access token and no Drive data is ever sent to SimpleTaxInvoice servers — none exist to send it to. Every restore is validated before it changes anything.

Hosting

At the hosting layer, this site is served by Cloudflare, which processes standard connection information (such as your IP address) to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. No analytics of ours, no accounts, no forms. See Security for exactly what scripts can load and when.

Cookies & tracking

We don't use cookies or trackers of our own, and nothing here needs a consent banner today — every piece of data actually written above exists to do something you asked for, not to track you. (The one reserved-but-empty table noted above stores nothing at all.) If we ever add advertising, it will only ever appear on content pages like the guides, this page will be updated first, and the editor — where your data lives — will never carry it.

If you received an invoice made with this tool

We cannot access or alter it — we never receive invoice data. Contact the business that issued the invoice; they are responsible for the personal information on their documents.

Your choices

Export your business records to a file you control, restore them from it, and remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser — without asking anyone. (A few device-local preferences, like dismissed Action Center suggestions, deliberately stay out of backups.)
